Russia approves long-term LNG plan to focus on Arctic, Far East
MOSCOW, Mar 22 (PRIME) -- The Russian government has approved a long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) program to develop the Arctic shelf and the Far East to diversify gas sources, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said on Monday at a meeting with his deputies.
“The long-term program for development of LNG production has been approved, and it should create additional possibilities for improvement of gas development infrastructure in the country, including in the Far East and in the Arctic. This is a priority goal that set by the president,” he said.
In the next 15 years, Russia’s LNG capacities should triple as the government creates conditions for investors who want to implement projects in the LNG and related industries, he said.
“Moreover, we will improve the mechanisms of state regulation to stimulate wider use of national technologies in the gas sector,” Mishustin said.
“As LNG output increases, we plan to create the basis for expansion of its consumption, develop infrastructure for autonomous improvement of gas infrastructure of the territories, and expand state support for more efficient and active consumption of gas motor fuel in the car sector.”
The program also pays attention to increase of Russia’s LNG exports as global demand for LNG expands actively, he added.
